In 1965 I went to Selma, Alabama to march with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Eventually I became a worker in King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference. I made the decision to leave school in order to work for King. He was impressed my drive and passion. He appointed me director of 'Operation Breadbasket', the economic arm of the SCLC.
