My Goal:
My goal was to stand up to prejudice and desegregate the public schools after the U.S. Supreme Court's 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education that found segregated schools unconstitutional.

The March On Washington Speech:
It was during a time where woman were expected to keep quiet, I was brave enough to stand up and speak. I spoke about freedom to stand up against prejudice.

I can truly not thank you enough for all of the guidance you gave to me and the other students when we were attending Little Rock Central High School. It was such a traumatic experience but people like you who supported us made it possible. I look up to you, and you set a fabulous example for African American youth of the time.
Ms. Bates, I understand that even though you are such a bright, articulate woman, you do not have much education. Could you please explain this?
