Born on March 11, 1926- was a leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, a minister, and a close associate of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Served in the army back in WWII and began his work as a political activist. Worked with Martin Luther King Jr. to get involved with the civil rights movement. In 1950 he graduated from Alabama University. After he then started to be a pastor at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery. In 1957 he formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference(SCLC) wtih Dr. King. He became good friends with Dr. King and gave a speech at his funeral after he was assassinated.
My goal is to improve life for African Americans by helping them gain more rights and a better education.

You have a nice saying on your grave that would make a great signature quote. What is that saying? (Hint. - Google your name and the important word grave,)
Rev. Abernathy, perhaps you could find some more pictures to add and look for that "gravestone" quote.
Ralph, I just wanted to thank you personally for being apathetic to my situation when you heard about it. In an interview with Callie Crossely on November 6,1985, I was proud to hear my name brought up even if you didn't think what I did was smart you did back me up and I am grateful for that.
